cycling / walking / buses / drifting through place

Movement changes how place is experienced.

Cycling through Perthshire reveals gradual transitions between social spaces, landscapes and atmospheres that become invisible by car.

“distance feels different when travelled physically”
FIELD NOTE /// The Taybank Pilgrim /// 07/05/2026

After a while this ride stopped feeling like just going somewhere. Blairgowrie to Dunkeld became a route I knew without thinking. Every climb, every descent, every corner. It became ritualistic. In the beer garden, I quickly became a routine fixture. The staff were familiar with me and I would be granted the occasional free coffee. Over time, the cycle created its own attachment to routine and place.
